Which prostate supplement do you recommend?
I get questions from my readers every day. Many of those questions relate to PSA and Biopsy. Below are some of the typical questions I get and the answers I give to them.
PSA stands for Prostate Specific Antigen. This is a measure of the concentration of antibodies specific to the Prostate in the blood. The PSA test was intended to indicate whether there is Prostate cancer present. Unfortunately, Prostate enlargement (BPH) and Prostatitis also causes PSA levels to rise. Many other factors such as almost any infection including Flus and Colds can raise PSA. Also physical exertion such as exercise or having sex will also raise PSA for 24 hours. Having a DRE or just riding a bike will raise PSA levels. Moreover PSA (like blood pressure) is highly volatile and can vary significantly within a five minute period.
50% of men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer have low PSA levels and 50% of men with high PSA levels are found to be free of Prostate Cancer. In sum PSA is a highly unreliable indicator and should be viewed with caution. The only reason doctors run PSA tests is because the PSA test is all there is.
I and many scientists and Doctors believe that taking clinical decisions based on PSA is misguided. For example the US Federal Government's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reviewed 592 published articles and compared eight prostate cancer treatment strategies. They concluded that "it's questionable whether the many cases of prostate cancer detected by the PSA test should even be treated".
This varies per individual and is also age and diet related. Men living is Asia for example have lower PSA levels than men living in America. Indeed American men are one hundred times more likely to get Prostate Cancer than men living is Asia. The protective factor is diet. I recommend a change of diet and food supplements for American men who have enlarged Prostates or are at risk of Prostate Cancer.
Almost nothing - Because PSA readings are so unreliable (see What causes PSA? above). The only indication that something MAY be going on in your prostate is when PSA scores increase in a consistently regularly rising trend, in at least four readings, each at least 3 months apart.
Even so that increase still does not indicate Prostate Cancer, It can also be caused by Prostate enlargement or infection. The only certain way to identify cancer at this point is the Biopsy which I do not recommend (see My Doctor wants me to have a Biopsy, should I? below).
Yes, (See What causes PSA? above)
I believe No. Most mens Prostate Cancer remains within the Prostate which is not life threatening. You can have a minimally invasive MRI scan to ensure that it has not spread beyond the Prostate.
I do not recommend Biopsy because it is invasive, painful, damaging and may spread cancer cells, but also because it is pointless to have one. Let me explain.
Many will tell you that the point of having a biopsy is to establish whether there is prostate cancer present. They say the benefit is that treating prostate cancer early minimizes the risks. That sounds logical but the science does not support it. All the research that has been done over the past 20 years shows that regardless of which treatment is given (or how soon), the statistical chance of dying of prostate cancer is the same as if you have no treatment at all. In other words none of the medical treatments for prostate cancer work.
That is confirmed by the conclusions of the AHRQ study shown below and the most recent study of 79,000 men suffering from Prostate cancer. I can send you an article about that study on request.
Bottom line, why suffer the risk of terrible side-effects reducing the quality of life, such as radiation burns, erectile dysfunction, incontinence and loss of male characteristics if there is no benefit in the treatment? And if you do not see the point of conventional treatment since it does not work, it follows logically that there is therefore no point in having a Biopsy either.
So what should you do? My view is that you should assume you have got prostate cancer and take the appropriate natural supplements (I recommend Total Health that work best) and make my recommended changes to your diet and lifestyle since those changes supports the effect of the supplement.
There is plenty of evidence (detailed in my book) that this will make it less likely for you to develop prostate cancer. If you already have prostate cancer, then it will slow the progress of what is the slowest growing cancer anyway. It should slow the progress to the point where you are far more likely to die with it rather than of it. That strategy means your quality of life will improve rather than degrade plus you avoid all the risks inherent in having invasive damaging treatments.
The most recent report from the US Federal Government's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that reviewed 592 published articles and compared eight prostate cancer treatment strategies concluded "it's questionable whether the many cases of prostate cancer detected by the PSA test should even be treated". In other words Doctors try and sell you expensive drugs and treatments that do not work.
See my book on how changing diet and lifestyle and taking supplements like Total Health can bring down psa return your prostate to good health, eliminate leaking, urgency, nocturnal visits to the toilet and reduce the likelihood of dieing from Prostate Cancer.
Yes, (see How do I bring my PSA down? Above.) Flomax is only at best a short-term fix which does not address the underlying cause which is an enlarged Prostate. If you do not deal with that, it will eventually get worse. Moreover continued use of Flomax will increase the risk of eventually becoming incontinent because Flomax is weakening the sphincter muscles by keeping them permanently relaxed. The analogy is imagine you have a blocked pipe which reduces flow. Instead of dealing with that blockage you take out the valve at the end of the pipe. that may temporarily increase flow but the blockage is going to get worse. Eventually the open valve is no longer sufficient. Ironically, if someone has been on flomax for a long time, dealing with the blockage can initally make things worse since the muscles will now be too weak to handle a stronger flow.
All drugs have side effects and reduce your health and well-being, therefore only to be taken in emergency and never long term. From my experience with BPH sufferers over the years Flomax rarely works that well anyway but has a number of side effects that are not dangerous but nonetheless are unpleasant. The most common of these include erectile dysfunction, headaches, fatigue, nasal congestion, dizziness, itchiness, and syncope - a sudden loss of consciousness.
The alternative is to take the appropriate natural supplements (I recommend Total Health that work best) and to make my recommended changes to your diet and lifestyle since those changes supports the effect of the supplement.
No, only if it rises consistently. (See What causes PSA? above)
A Biopsy is not necessarily conclusive and perhaps your Doctor sees continued cause to believe you may have Prostate Cancer. Nonetheless I do not recommend Biopsy (see My Doctor wants me to have a Biopsy, should I? above).
This question requires too lengthy a response. See my book on how changing diet and lifestyle and taking supplements can bring down psa return your prostate to good health, eliminate leaking, urgency, nocturnal visits to the toilet and reduce the likelihood of dieing from Prostate Cancer.
YES, Prostatitis is an infection related to the Prostate and that spikes PSA (see What causes PSA? above). The cure for chronic Prostatitis as explained in my book is simultaneously to deal with the Prostate enlargement and to enhance the bodies own immune response.
NO, (see What causes PSA? above)
YES, (see What causes PSA? above)
YES, it may be connected. If your PSA level is raised by an enlargement of the Prostate, that same enlargement can cause retrograde ejaculation and errectile Dysfunction.
I recommend the Supplement Total Health which has 28 active ingredients and is the most cost-effective natural supplement for Prostate that I know. However unlike the drug Finasteride/Proscar which in effect masks the level of PSA, Total Health achieves its reduction in PSA by actually improving the health of and reducing the size of the Prostate.
Prostatitis is an infection caused by the inability of the bladder to empty as a result of the enlarged Prostate. That residual urine is a breeding ground for infection. Antibiotics are generally ineffective because most Prostatitis is caused by viruses and non-specific bacteria. The cure for chronic Prostatitis as explained in my book is simultaneously to deal with the Prostate enlargement and to enhance the bodies own immune response. I recommend the Supplement Total Health which has 28 active ingredients and is the most cost-effective natural supplement for Prostate that I know. That should ideally be combined with changes in diet and exercise. I also recommend Beta Glucan to enhance the immune response.
It may seem intuitive that removing the Prostate, whether by surgery, keyhole surgery, or cryotherapy, removes the Cancer or risk of Cancer recurring. Unfortunately it does not, because it has not removed the cause of the cancer. It is possible to die of Prostate Cancer even if you have no Prostate. In fact the research shows that the statistical risk of Cancer recurring is the same whether or not you have had your Prostate removed. A rising PSA is often taken to mean that the cancer is once again growing. Men who have had their Prostate removed are recommended in my book to make the same change in diet and take supplements in order to reduce the risk of recurrence as are men who wish to protect against the initial risk.
An anomaly in the wall of the Prostate shown by a skilled DRE is a more reliable indicator than a rise in PSA. However I still do not recommend Biopsy (see My Doctor wants me to have a Biopsy, should I? above)

NO, That would be the wrong move, especially as the PSA is such an unreliable indicator. (See I had my prostate removed, how can my PSA now be rising? Above).
YES, very likely. In the same way as the pressure from an enlarged Prostate can squueze the uretha to reduce the flow of urine, it can also block ejaculate. So it is not due to PSA but it is likely to be due to the cause of uour PSA rising.
Regrettably no. In the case where surgery has damaged nerves there is no remedy.
YES, and yes again. (see My Doctor wants me to have a Biopsy, should I? above).
YES, but there are biochemical extracts like Beta Sitosterol that are even more effective especially when combined with changes in diet. The most effective supplement I know for Prostate, Total Health, does not contain a single herb. See my book on how changing diet and lifestyle and taking supplements can bring down psa return your prostate to good health, eliminate leaking, urgency, nocturnal visits to the toilet and reduce the likelihood of dieing from Prostate Cancer.
Hi, I am Ben Ong, author of the best selling Ebook "All About The Prostate".
Uncertainty about your health, what it means and what to do about it can make this a worrying time for you. This report will help you some and my book can help you more.
Doctors can be very intimidating and they may project more certainty then is justified. They may also have ulterior motives. Never forget, what Doctors do is a business and they see you as a meal ticket. That may influence their advice. Be in command of the facts and take charge yourself.
That is what reading "All About The Prostate" would give you. I tell you what your doctor will not. Mine is an account of the options and the real-life implications of each. And I give you the independent research that proves what I say.
I also spell out simple, inexpensive and safe options that can radically improve your health. A nutritional supplement that is at least as effective as a drug and much safer, costs a tiny fraction of what doctors, drugs and procedures do. But you need to know which ones work and which ones don't.
When you have read my report please also consider buying my book. It is only $39 and is worth every cent. I guarantee it. In fact you can even get it for nothing. There is a terrific highly effective supplement called Total Health. If you buy three bottles of Total Health on this site, you get the book completely free.
Please check out the links below. You can either buy the book or the supplement or both from this website.
PS - When you buy the book, you also get ongoing updated information from me and even access to ask for specific advice.
PPS - If you buy the book today, you also get a rebate of $39 against the purchase of three bottles of Total Health valid for thirty days. So, in effect you get the book for nothing if you decide within thirty days to buy the supplements as well.
